we are seeking a Rapid Response Organizer/ Campaign Strategist!

Job type: Full-time (40 hours a week) 

Compensation: $70,000 

Location: Remote with up to 20% travel

 

Organizational Overview

In Our Names Network works to prevent and demand accountability for individual cases and systemic police violence against Black women, girls, and trans and gender nonconforming people. We do this by supporting and amplifying calls to action, resources, and local campaigns of network members, and leveraging our collective power through nationally networked campaigns to bring about systemic change.  

 

Our members engage in visionary organizing aimed at dismantling systems of policing as they operate on Black women, girls, trans and gender nonconforming people's bodies and life chances, and build new ways of preventing, interrupting, and ending gender-based violence so that all Black women, girls, trans, and gender nonconforming people can not only survive but thrive free from all forms of violence.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

● Execute rapid response protocol connecting survivors, family members, and supporters to Network members and resources, supporting Network members in uplifting local demands, and mobilizing support in instances where Black women/femmes, trans, or GNC people are harmed or killed by police; 

● Quarterly audits of campaign effectiveness and impact in coordination with the Executive Director 

● Designs and executes all aspects of campaign planning and implementation including day-to-day operations

● Lead efforts to develop, design, and disseminate toolkits, fact sheets, one pager, and other public information to aid network members, organizers, and staff in supporting rapid response work;

● Spend 2-3 hours each day dedicated to social listening to acquire a complete overview and deep understanding of the current landscape of Black feminist organizations and efforts to address police violence against Black women, girls, queer and trans people and improve campaign targeting 

● Instrumental in the network's resource hub development and maintenance in coordination with the communications specialist

● Develop a multi-year campaign strategy to ensure the campaign goals are measurable and achievable and the work plan is in alignment with the network's mission, vision, and theory of change with assistance from the Executive Director & and network members.

● Represent the organization in relevant organizing spaces, press conferences, and public speaking opportunities relevant to the role at the direction of the Executive Director

● Manage day-to-day operations of the Survivors of Police Violence Fund in coordination with the Executive Director while supporting survivors, families, and loved ones who are potential applicants and recipients of the fund while connecting network members to calls to action and direct support

● Innovate and integrate wellness and healing justice support offerings to survivors and families

● Lead efforts to develop and implement direct outreach and recruitment tactics to potential network members;

● Effectively enter and track data for a database of Black women (queer, trans, and GNC) killed or harmed by police.

● Develop and lead occasional trainings, workshops, and webinars for network members centered around rapid response 

● Collaborate with comms to develop a media/digital presence that reaches survivors and families

● Participate in weekly meetings with the Executive Director, monthly network meetings, conduct orientation for new network members, and meet with groups on the ground as needed.

Required Qualifications

Qualified applications must have:

●2+ years of experience developing, managing, and implementing field organizing strategies and outreach programs around advocacy or issue-based campaigns;

● Experience organizing groups and individuals around police violence, gender justice, safety for Black trans women, PIC abolition, police free schools.

● Experience organizing in Black feminist communities 

● Working knowledge of issues related to police violence against Black women, girls, trans and queer people

● Proficiency using Microsoft, Zoom, GSuite, Action Network, and other relevant internet-based technology

● Experience maintaining and updating Excel database

● Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well independently and as a team with people at all levels

● Time and project management skills; ability to pivot to meet current events and organizational needs while maintaining attention to detail and long-term goals

● Sensibility, flexibility, and teamwork skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment

● Resolute commitment to ending police violence against Black women, girls, trans and queer people, and collective liberation from all systems that seek to cause harm and building new systems of liberation and safety 

 

Desired Qualifications

Applicants will be given preference who have:

● Working knowledge of digital organizing 

● Experience with or deep interest in project management tools and practice

● Action network experience

● Spanish fluency a plus


 

Reports to and Location

● This position reports directly to the Executive Director 

● Position is remote with some travel 

 

Vaccination Transparency 

Due to in-person interactions during employment, candidates will be required to show proof of full vaccination status ( Proof of two doses and at least one Bivalent booster) against COVID-19 before commencing employment.
